Yellow Blaze: The ‘Other’ Artist

It’s blog o’clock! So, what do we have for you this Wednesday? Well, aside from phone calls to couriers and computer manufacturers, it’s been a busy couple of days here in the Tattoo Revolution bunker and the second issue is well under way (I know, we’re still chasing the printers for our glorious first physical edition: we’ll get ‘em).

Anyway, onto today’s musings…

It’s fair to say that pretty much everyone knows of the epic endeavours of Shige, a man who has single-handedly revolutionised Japanese tattooing, but he’s not alone at his Yokohama base of Yellow Blaze Tattoo Studio. Alongside him works Tomo, an artist whose work is equally spellbinding and enthralling, and although Shige’s influence prevails through Tomo’s dermal portfolio, there’s plenty to make his tattooing a unique beast.

Is that not one of the most beautiful torso tattoos that you’ve ever seen? The rich textures and silky-smooth shading surrounding the geisha are mind-boggling.

Tomo’s also well versed when it comes to new school work and I love his take on a relatively simple idea: the lighting on the skull is superb.

Finally, even one of his simple chrysanthemums looks as clean and crisp as any I’d be proud to wear…

Stay tuned for more news tomorrow, gentle folk of tattoo land.
