Tattooed Blood Donors Now Welcome in Illinois

Another significant development to occur Stateside of late is in the state of Illinois, where tattooed individuals can now donate blood without having to wait a 12-month period following a tattoo.

This change is due to additional legislation that sees the Illinois Department of Public Health regulating tattoo parlours throughout the state, meaning that cleanliness is monitored in all registered studios. Due to the volume of screenings and tests that donated blood is subject to, perhaps others will follow in Illinois’ footsteps and allow those of adorned skin to share some of the red stuff in aid of those less fortunate? We can but hope…

PS. For the life of me, I couldn’t find an image of a tattooed individual giving blood. No, I’m not surprised by this.

Thanks to The State Journal-Register for Monday’s news.
